Hello Gilbert H. Hood Families,

The first week of school was a great success! The energy around the building has been positive and engaging. Staff and students have worked together, with flexibility and patience, to begin building a strong, successful school community. We are thankful for the ongoing support of families. Working together, we can do amazing things.

Arrival/Dismissal

Thank you for your continued patience as we work out the routines of our new arrival and dismissal procedures. The safety of our students is our top priority. In addition to that primary goal, we want to be as efficient as possible. So we greatly appreciate your patience and understanding as we coordinate the arrival and dismissal of 700 students.

It is IMPERATIVE that car drivers and students pay attention to both the signage and the directions of the staff during arrival and dismissal. We must work together to create procedures that are both SAFE and efficient.

PLEASE follow the staff’s directions when:

  • Staff members direct students to stay in vehicles .

  • Staff members direct students to get out of vehicles .

  • Staff members reroute traffic patterns to alleviate long lines. (For example: You may be directed to get out of the arrival line and drop-off at the front of the building. This redirection helps when the drop-off line extends towards the main road.)

When staff members provide the above directions, please know that our intention is not to inconvenience, irritate, or confuse anyone. Our goal is SAFETY first, as well as EFFICIENCY.

Blue-Gold Schedule

As your child may have shared with you, this year our school will be following a Blue-Gold schedule. Students have been given both a BLUE-day and a GOLD-day schedule. We will alternate between BLUE days and GOLD days. A yearlong calendar of these days has been attached for your reference.

Adventurelore.

We are fortunate to have Adventurelore visiting GHH on September 17 and 18. Each team will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of team building activities for a portion of either the 17th or 18th. Adventurelore is a local organization that specializes in delivering activities to promote community, leadership and effective communication. We are excited to offer this opportunity to our students.
