WRB News, 10/11/24

October 11, 2024

Dear West Running Brook Families:

We hope everyone had a great week! The weather looks great for the upcoming long weekend. REMINDER: There is no school on Monday, October 14 in observance of Columbus Day.  Thank you to all who participated in our Hats for Help Day on Thursday. We raised $282 for Derry’s Sonshine Soup Kitchen!

Picture day photos were sent home with students today. Picture retake day is scheduled for Friday, November 1.

Grades are now viewable in the PowerSchool Parent Portal. This is your way to check your child's progress in class. If you have access to PowerSchool, please go to sau10.powerschool.com to access your child's grades. Once logged in, click the "standards" tab.

If you do not have access to PowerSchool, please see your email for a message that was sent regarding the Annual Return to School Informational Update. Here you can find information regarding PowerSchool log in. If you have any issues, please contact the office for assistance.

HERE you can find a summary of the changes to the grading and reporting practices in the Derry Cooperative School District. We have created a consistent 4-point scale to be used for the assessment of academic and standards in grades K-8. We no longer will use letters, but instead will report student achievement using numbers 4, 3, 2, 1. There is also a scale to communicate information about students’ performance readiness related to our 5 SEL competencies. Please contact us with any questions.

PTSA Monster Mile Fundraiser

This year's fall fundraiser will be a FUN RUN!! During the school day on October 31, students will be walking, running, skipping or even dancing through a designated course around the

school/field, with a few obstacles along the way. All of our profits will go right back to the students of West Running Brook!! Our goal for this year is to raise $20,000!! Registration is COMPLETELY FREE and if we can get 30% of the school registered by October 14th, students will get a PAJAMA DAY!!

SEE HERE FOR REGISTRATION INFORMATION AND MORE DETAILS!

Veterans Breakfast

To continue our tradition, West Running Brook would like to honor veterans who are connected to our larger school community with a display of gratitude on Friday, November 8th. We invite veteran parents, grandparents, and family members who are connected to WRB in any way. We will begin serving breakfast at 7:45am, followed by a ceremony of gratitude.

SEE HERE FOR MORE INFORMATION AND A LINK TO RSVP!

Congratulations to this week’s Golden Bear winners:

Mrs. Hall’s Multimedia Production Class

The class has been working very hard to learn about and write editorials for our upcoming WRBIS newspaper. Their writing skills have progressed immensely since the beginning of school. This week, they worked especially hard to complete their rough drafts - We are so proud of them!

Important: Returning Student Annual Information Update

Please complete the Returning Student Annual Information Update. This must be done for ALL NEW and RETURNING STUDENTS!! You will use the PowerSchool Parent Portal to access the Update. (If you do not have a portal account, or you did not receive instructions for setting it up, complete this form and instructions will be sent to you: https://forms.gle/qLw5onCPkAs1wo846 ). Please call the office for any questions or assistance: 603-432-1250.

Volunteer Fingerprint Evening Session

On October 16 from 4:00 - 8:00 the Derry Cooperative School District will offer an evening for volunteers to be fingerprinted prior to volunteering in the schools. These appointments are intended to help those volunteers who cannot schedule an appointment during regular business hours.  Please contact Kim Kelley or Maryellen Taglilatela at 603-432-1210 to schedule a fingerprinting appointment. Thank you in advance for all you do for our school community.

Other Reminders:

Drop-off

Please use the drop off lanes if you are transporting your child to school in the morning. Please do not drop students off in the bus lane.

Outside Drinks

Please do not send students to school with outside beverages (other than clear liquids and water).  Thank you for your help with this!

Dismissals

If you are dismissing your child near the end of the day, please park in the front of the building to avoid being stuck in the car pick up lane.

**Please drive slowly around the property.

With the new playground, students cross the driveway regularly.**
