WRB News, 11/2/24

November 22, 2024

Dear West Running Brook Families:

Thank you for your support of our End 68 Hours of Hunger School Drive! Blue House collected the most items and therefore will receive an extra recess, but the whole community really stepped up to help those in need. Thank you for your tremendous generosity!

It’s hard to believe that next week wraps up trimester one. Grades close on Tuesday, 11/25. Report cards will be shared with families via PowerSchool on Monday, December 9.

Reminder, Thanksgiving recess begins Wednesday, 11/26. School resumes Monday, December 2.

NEW Work Completion Report

I am writing to tell you about a new feature in PowerSchool that allows you to get a report of all of your child's missing, late, or incomplete assignments in each class. This report pulls information directly from each teacher's gradebook and creates a list of assignments that have been flagged as either missing, late, or incomplete.

To access this report:

1. Log in to the Parent Portal. If you need help with your account, you can email DerryRegistration@sau10.org.

2. Click on Student Reports.

3. At the top of the screen, look for the heading: Currently Published Reports. Select T1 Assignment Completion Report - Intermediate. You can print this or save it as a pdf. You can click the X to return back to the portal.

The Student Reports tab on the Parent Portal is also where you can find all your child's archived reports from previous academic terms. When new learning reports (aka report cards) come out, we will email that to you directly, but they will also be archived and available to you at any time on this screen.

PTSA Reflections

Student entry forms for the 24-25 Reflections Program went home this week. We are hoping to showcase the amazing, artistic talent that we have at West Running Brook!

Reflections is a PTA Program that encourages kids to showcase their artistic and creative side. Students can submit an entry in accessible arts, dance choreography, film production, literature, music composition, photography and visual arts. Students will be judged at the school level and then may move on to state and possibly the national level.

All submitted entries will be on display at The Coffee Factory in mid-December- more details coming soon!

Please note: Each entry must be the original work of one student only. An adult may not alter the creative integrity of a student’s work. Because the program is designed to encourage and recognize each student’s individual creativity, help from an adult or collaboration with other students is not allowed except in the Accessible Arts division.

This year's theme is: "Accepting Imperfection."

Due Date: December 6, 2024 (please drop off in the main office of West Running Brook)

Congratulations to this Week’s Golden Bear Award Winners:

Mrs. Stowell’s Yellow Sixth Grade Music Class

Ms. Stowell’s  6th grade music class takes Fun Friday to a whole new level! They truly embody the spirit of C.A.R.E.S. by cooperating during rehearsals, advocating for each other’s growth, treating their classmates with kindness, and listening with empathy. Whether learning new rhythms, strumming  guitar, or playing Name That Tune, they make all classmates feel accepted. Their progress in music class and dedication to teamwork make each class a joy. Keep up the great work!

Mrs. Strike’s Green Science Class

I'm thrilled to share that Mrs. Strike's green science class has been actively conducting weather observations. The students are consistently making connections with the map key and the weather symbols, which has enhanced their ability to make evidence-based predictions regarding the direction in which the conditions are moving.

Additionally, we've been exploring methods of dissolving candy in relation to hypoglycemia conditions. The class has demonstrated remarkable cooperation, responsibility, and personal control as they persevere through the challenges of the scientific method.
